CNC turning

CNC turning is an industrial production process obtained by the removal of swarf. CNC turning is defined as the rotary motion of the workpiece and a mostly rectilinear motion of the tool (in milling and drilling the tool has rotatory motion). the edge of the tool cuts into the material of the workpiece and removes the excess (allowance) thus forming swarf. The machine used for turning is the lathe.

CNC turning is an industrial production process. It is a mechanical process generally consisting of two phases: the first, called roughing, to give the required form to the piece regardless of the roughness obtained; the second, called finishing , is to remove the additional material with more precision, to obtain the final dimensions with the desired roughness.

The modern lathe (CNC lathe) is a technologically advanced machine, able to produce extremely complex details in a fully automatic process with the aid of specific software.

To obtain forms that differ substantially from those produced by the methods of milling or turning of the traditional type, the detail can be turned-milled (machining with a milling lathe). This combination allows high metal removal with excellent quality control.

In fact, milling lathes, involving the simultaneous combination of 5-axis machining for turning and milling, simultaneously perform both operations on a single machine, allowing a considerable saving of time. Very often one single piece setting is necessary and precision mechanical parts with high complexity can be obtained.

AR COSTRUZIONI MECCANICHE, specialised in turning in Verona, uses the Mazak Integrex 200 lathe, equipped with bar feeder, which can greatly reduce production costs by making the machine fully automatic.
